Acadia National Park | Maine Parks
Originally called Green Mountain it was renamed in 1918 to Cadillac Mountain. Cadillac is the highest point along the Atlantic coast of the United States. People who wish the visit the top have the option of either hiking or using the paved road to drive to the top. Many consider Cadillac Mountain to be the first spot in the United States to see the sunrise every morning. The theory being that is due to it’s height, sunlight hits the top of Cadillac Mountain before reaching any other point in the United States. Both of these locations are over 100 miles away. The 3.5 mile road by which Cadillac Mountain is accessible is closed from December 1 through April 14. Weather conditions, such as extreme fog or ice, may cause the narrow and winding road to close on other days as well.
