 Stetson was named after Amasa Stetson, its first proprietor. Amasa and his brother, Simeon, who moved and established himself in Hampden, Maine were the founders of a powerful family in business and politics. Many of the descending sons served in the state and federal government including family ties to Lincoln’s vice president Hannibal Hamlin.
