Brownville, Maine is part of the Three Rivers Community of Maine near Katahdin Iron Works and Ore Mountain, the largest producer of iron ore in the U.S. at it’s peak in the late 1800’s. The Appalachian Trail’s "100 Mile Wilderness" passes through the village of Brownville Junction, and is also the site of an annual sled dog race of the same name.
