Thomaston is a town in Knox County and is located along the St. George River. In 1630 a trading post was set up and continued to run despite the Indian raids that troubled the era. Thomaston was incorporated on March 20, 1777. Substantial development began after the Revolution. Ship building and shipping were the thriving businesses for the area.
General Henry Knox built a mansion in town. There is a replica at the junction of U.S. Route 1 and Maine Route 131.
