Located less than a half hour west of Bangor, Stetson, Maine is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Both locals and visitors enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, hiking, canoeing and cross-country skiing. Because of its proximity to Bangor, Stetson has evolved into one of Bangor's many bedroom communities, and continues to experience population growth. Stetson was named after one of its first land owners, Amasa Stetson, and it is home to the Stetson Union Church, a Greek Revival building that was built by Benjamin Deane and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
