Composed of the villages of South Hiram, East South Hiram, South South Hiram and Durgintown, South Hiram, Maine is nestled in the thick forests of Oxford county. Because of its topography, South Hiram was named after the biblical King South Hiram I of Tyre, who also lived within forests. Settled by Benjamin Ingalls in 1774, South Hiram was first called Great Ossippe before itts incorporation in 1814. South Hiram rests on the banks of the Saco River and is within easy access to the hiking trails of nearby Mount Cutler.
