First called Plymouth Grove, the town of Pittsfield, Maine was first settled by Moses Martin and his family in 1795. By 1824, it's name was changed to Pittsfield, in honor of landholder William Pitts. Once the railroad arrived in the 1850's, Pittsfield became a thriving mill town.
Pittsfield is home to the Maine Central Institute, a private boarding school founded in 1866. Each summer, Pittsfeld holds it's annual Central Maine Egg Festival - five days of carnivals, parades, community meals, softball games, horseshoe tournaments, art exhibits, vendors and more.
