Paris, Maine is the county seat of Oxford county and includes the villages of South Paris, West Paris, North Paris and Paris Hill. First settled by the families of John Willis and Lemuel Jackson in 1782, Paris was known for having some of Maine's best dairy farms, apple orchards and livestock. Now a listed historic district popular with tourists, the village of Paris Hill has one of the highest elevations in the state, offers stunning views of Mount Washington and Mount Chocorua, and is filled with beautiful examples of Federal and Greek Revival archutecture.
Local Paris attractions include the Celebration Barn Theater and the Hamlin Memorial Museum. Famous residents have included several notable congressmen and governors, a US Postmaster General, an admiral, and an anit-suffragist political activist.
