The town of Orland, Maine was originally settled by Joseph Gross in 1764 and is home to the Craig Brook Fish Hatchery. Orland's most famous native was Walter Van Tilburg Clark, author of 'The Oxbow Incident', a novel which was later made into an oscar-nominated, western film noir movie in 1943 starring Henry Fonda.
