Oakfield, Maine was first settled in 1831, and later incorporated as a town in 1897. Oakfield is home to many ponds and lakes including Drew's Lake, Spaulding Lake and Skitacook Lake. Oakfield also has a Railroad Museum, honoring the days of early railroad transportation in the area.
"There were fields surrounded by many oak trees in the area, so the oldest resident, James Timonty, gave it this name. This area stayed part of Massachusetts after 1820, becoming part of Maine in 1858."
