First settled in 1802 by Benjamin Sargent, the town of Milo, Maine was named after Milo of Croton, a 6th Century BC wrestler from Greece. Shortly after settlement, Milo became a bustling trade center for the Sebec Lake region of Maine. Not long after the arrival of the Bangor and Piscaraquis Railroad, Milo developed into a mill town and became home to the American Thread Company and the Boston Excelsior Company. Along with Bowerbank, Atkinson, Brownville, Lake View, LaGrange, Medford and Sebec, Milo is part of the Three Rivers Community in Piscataquis County, Maine.
