Although it was settled in 1824, the town of Lee was originally a land grant from Massachusetts developed by Willams College. A group of approximatley thirty families first settled Lee, including Stephen Lee, the town's namesake. Lee is situated around Mattakeunk Pond and is the location of several summer camps and resorts, as well as Lee Academy.
