Located in the southern region of Penobscot County, Lagrange is part of the Three Rivers Community, a group of central Maine towns that includes Brownville, Lake View, Milo, Medford, Sebec and Atkinson. Lagrange was first incorporated in 1832 and covers 34,000 acres of land. The primary bodies of water in Lagrange include Cold Brook, Birch Stream, Hemlock Stream and Dead Stream. HIstorically, Lagrange was a lumbering community and one of its first settlers, Josiah Bennoch, operated a timer business on the banks of Dead Stream.
