Located near Milford, Maine, Indian Island is an indian reservation for the Penobscot Nation, a Wabanaki tribe. Although most of the reservation is located in Penobscot County, a small portion of uninhabited land can be found in nearby Aroostook County. Indian Island is home to one of America's first Native American gambling centers and opened Penobscot High Stakes Bingo in 1973. Indian Island is also home to the Penobscot Nation Museum, a valuable resource on the history of the penawahpskewi people.
