Harmony, Maine was named after the great spirit of the settlers. Harmony was first known as Vaughnstown when it was settled in 1796, in honor of one of it's wealthiest landowners, Charles Vaughn. The final name change occurred at the time oftown incorporation in 1803. Harmony rests on the banks of both the Sebasticook River and Great Moose Lake, and was once home to multiple mills and tanneries.
