Located on the banks of the Piscaraquis River, Guilford, Maine was first settled in 1803 by Robert Low and Robert Herring, who bought tracts of land from Bowdoin College. In 1816, the first road was built into Guilford and the railroad followed in 1871. A strong manufacturing community, Guilford produces wood products, medical supplies and textiles. Each summer, Guilford hosts the Piscataquis River Festival, a family-friendly gathering that includes a car cruise-in, parades, music, and booths from local artisans and vendors.
