Named after Mount Etna in Italy, Etna was the last town in Maine to be incorporated before Maine achieved statehood. Etna, Maine was first settled in 1807 by General John Crosby and named Crosbytown. The town is a destination for spiritualists and their Camp Etna began in the summer of 1876. This annual event continues in Etna today. Etna is a bedroom community for the nearby towns of Bangor and Newport.
