Dover-Foxcroft, Maine is the largest community and the county seat of Piscataquis County, as well as home to Moosehead Manufacturing. Originally two separate towns, Dover and Foxcroft were combined into one community in 1922. Dover was named after Dover, England, which is where the owner of the town, Charles Vaughn and his family originally came from. In 1800 Joseph Foxcroft bought land from Bowdoin College where he gave land for schools and contributed books to the town library. Because of Foxcroft's great generosity, the town was named after him.
Famous natives of Dover-Foxcroft include Clarence Blethen - a Major League baseball player for the Boston Red Sox and the Brooklyn Robins, David Mallet - an American singer/ songwriter most known for penning 'Garden Song", sung by both Arlo Guthrie and John Denver, and Lillian Stevens - founder of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
