Located on the banks of the Narraguagus River, Cherryfield was first settled in 1760 and started as a shipbuilding community. This picturesque Maine town is named for the wild cherries that grow along the banks of its river. Residents of Cherryfield have dubbed their community the 'Blueberry Capital of the World', and it is the home of both Cherryfield Foods & Jasper, Wyman & Son, blueberry processing companies.
Famous residents of Cherryfield have included Carlton Willey, pro baseball pitcher for the Milwaukee Braves and the New York Mets between 1958 and 1965, and Hiram Burnham, Brigadier General during the Americal Civil War.
