Castine, Maine is located on a peninsula in the East Penobscot Bay region of castal Maine. This small village of nearly 8 square miles is about an hour's drive from Bangor and 1.25 hours from the Camden/ Bar Harbor region.
Castine is on the National Register of Historic Places, and consists of two distinct geographical regions; The Village and 'Off Neck' - a narrow strip of land that separates the Bagaduce River on one side from the Penobscot River on the other.
Rich in history, Castine has more than 100 historic markers. Major landmarks include Fort George (built by the British in 1779) and Fort Madison.
