Cape Elizabeth is the home of Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in the world. Cape Elizabeth also has the longest growing season in Maine. Cape Elizabeth got its name from Captain John Smith who was ordered by Prince Charles to give all the locations on his map with Indian names, Christian names. Cape Elizabeth was named after his sister, Princess Elizabeth.
