Brooksville, Maine is located on the southeastern shores of Hancock County on the Atlantic Ocean, and was originally incorporated in 1817. Brooksville was named after John Brooks, the ninth governor of Massachusetts and active member of the American Revolution military. Brooksville is home to Bucks Harbor, which many consider to be one of Maine's best harbors for small boats. Famous Brooksville residents have included Archibald Cox (Watergate prosecutor), Robert McCloskey (children book author & illustrator), and John Mack (Navy seaman who won a Medal of Honor for heroism), among many others.
