Originally called Blakesburg Plantation, the town of Bradford, Maine was first settled in 1804 by James White and Robert Marshall of Thomaston. With a steady stream of settlers coming to the area, Bradford reached a population of over 1500 by the mid-1850's. Bradford was officially incorporated as a town in 1820, and today is considered part of the greater Bangor, Maine metropolitan area. In 1872, a rare tornado ripped through Bradford and demolished two homes, before moving on to do damage in nearby Dover and Parkman.
