Bowerbank is a quiet Maine community located on the banks of Sebec Lake that was first incorporated in 1839. Bowerbank was first settled in 1821 by Charles Vaughan, Esq., an employee of London merchant Mr. Bowerbank. There is only one road providing access to Bowerbank, and the town has no gas stations or stores. The combined towns of Bowerbank, Atkinson, Brownville, and LaGrange are commonly referred to as the Three Rivers Community.
