Sodoku is a logic-based combinational, number-placement puzzle. The object of the game is to completely fill a 9x9 grid so that each column, rown, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes. (or regions) conatins the digits from 1 to 9 only one time for each number. You begin each game with a partially completed grid.. The inventor of Sodoku - the modern puzzle version, was Harward Garns. Garns was an American arcitect his puzzle called, "Numbers in Place" was published by Dell Magazines in 1979. Sodoku gained popularity in Japan in 1986 when the Japanese puzzle maker Nikoli began publishing their version of the game and called it "Sudoku" - which means "single number".
