- Art - Jun 13 thru Jul 25 - Space, Place and Time - PhoPa Gallery
Art - Jun 13 thru Jul 25 - Space, Place and Time - PhoPa Gallery - Space, Place and Time combines photographic and sculptural works by Jay Gould. The work seeks to address the daunting task of photographing a reality that is often theoretical, ineffable and inaccessible by embracing a degree of poetic license. Drawing from four different bodies of work, the exhibition presents Gould's inquiries into scientific theories on space, relativity and perceived reality. Gould believes that we look to both science and art for similar reasons: not for cold calculation, but for a story or other curious connection. His connections blend empirical evidence with insight, inviting viewers to share in his sense of discovery, absurdity and emotion. Originally from Minneapolis, Gould current teaches at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and has taught for many years at Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine. The exhibit is on display at PhoPa Gallery in Portland through July 25.

- Art - Aug 07 - Kotzschmar Tours and Artist Tina Ingraham - Merrill Auditorium
Art - Aug 07 - Kotzschmar Tours and Artist Tina Ingraham - Merrill Auditorium - Come see the work of guest artist, Tina Ingraham, in the lobby and tour the Kotzschmar organ on stage by the console and inside the windchest during this month's Artwalk! Tina Ingraham has selected a group of paintings and etchings inspired by, or painted while living in, Italy. Portraits, Italian landscapes, and still lifes comprise the group of twenty-one works. The warm palette she uses in the multi-figured composition, "In the House of Mysteries," informed by her visit to Pompeii and completed in 2014, is evident in the three still life works in the exhibition. Integral to the body of work are her portraits made up of three paintings and three etchings that exemplify her knowledge of the figure. The freshness in her brushwork creates palpable likenesses in the direct gaze of "Claudia" and profile of "Cheryl." Free and open to the public.
