Maine Freshwater Fishing
With thousands of lakes and ponds and hundreds of rivers and streams it’s no wonder the freshwater angler makes Maine an annual fishing vacation destination. The deep, cold Maine lakes are home to landlocked salmon, monster lake trout and giant northern pike. The fast-running, pebble-stone bottomed rivers harbor rainbow trout, brook trout and other fish species. Whether you’re an amateur angler or a professional fisherman, Maine freshwater fishing offers some fishing excitement for you.
Visit Ogunquit, York or Kennebunk and you’ll have the opportunity to take a Saltwater Fishing Guide Boat. The local fishing Captains will take you out into the Atlantic Ocean for a full day or half-day trip to fish for Mackerel, Cod, Haddock, Sea Bass, and other ocean favorites. You’ll find some great south coast Maine inns and they are located just a few minutes from the docks. Pick up some brochures and book the adventure in advance. Ask your innkeeper – they can help arrange your fishing boat for you and some may even offer a discount or coupon.
Midcoast Maine means quaint fishing harbors like the one in Camden. Stay at one of the outstanding area inns. The fishing docks are just a short walk away from downtown Camden, and there area several wonderful local restaurants that offer “fresh catch of the day”. A seafood lovers dream.
Downeast Maine is a bit farther north. Acadia National Park is located here. Bar Harbor offers deep sea fishing tours, whale watching and puffin viewing boat tours. There is a wonderful selection of Bar Harbor restaurants, nightlife, hotels and inns. Downeast Pet Friendly lodging is even available.
