Maine has much to offer businesses. This must be why so many different types of businesses have chosen Maine as their base of operations. True Maine is beautiful, an ideal place to live, but for businesses Maine is much more than that.
The state of Maine established what is called Pine Tree Development Zones (PTDZ). These are designated areas to encourage new qualified business activity in depressed areas throughout the state. Only certain types of businesses can qualify. For instance, it is not meant to aid companies that simply move from a non-PTDZ to a PTDZ. There are eight zones in all, including Aroostook County, Androscoggin Valley, Downeast, Kennebec Valley, Midcoast, Penobscot Valley, PenQuis and Southern Maine.
Maine also has a number of other assistance programs to help businesses in Maine thrive. This includes a workforce training program, business resource guides, community development block grant program, tax increment financing and more.
