World's Tallest Indian
Dedicated to the Maine Indians
|
Maybe not the BIGGEST Indian in the world, this wooded Indian is by some accounts the tallest. He has been standing behind the Cumberland Farms convenience store since 1969 when he was erected in observance of Maine's 150th anniversary.
Skowhegan's tall Indian was carved from pine trees. He was made by Bernard Langlais, a Maine sculpter. The Indian is 62 feet tall. To find him look behind the Cumberland Farms store at Pleasant Street and Madison Avenue in Skowhegan.
This giant wood Indian is dedicated to Maine's Abenaki Indians.
